SQUAMISH – The Province celebrated excellence in mine safety at the combined Provincial Mine Rescue, First Aid and Safety Awards ceremony held June 6 near Squamish.
VICTORIA – The Province has proclaimed the first full week of June every year as B.C. Seniors’ Week and this year, Seniors’ Week runs from June 7 through June 13. This is an opportunity for communities to acknowledge and celebrate the diversity of the province’s older population and to increase public awareness of their vital role in British Columbia.
VICTORIA – British Columbia is working closely with the Public Health Agency of Canada, which, in turn, is working with health officials from the United States and Mexico to investigate an outbreak of swine influenza. Two human cases of swine flu have been confirmed in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia and both are recovering.

VICTORIA – Health care history past, present and future on southern Vancouver Island was marked today with celebrations on the 120th anniversary of the Royal Jubilee Hospital and the unveiling of a cornerstone for the new patient care centre.
LANGLEY – Funding of more than $2.9 million to expand and renovate the medical imaging department and $1.5 million to acquire a new 64-slice CT scanner at Langley Memorial Hospital was announced by Langley MLA Mary Polak and Fort Langley-Aldergrove MLA Rich Coleman.
PRINCE GEORGE – A $2.2 million contribution from the Province to the Prince George school district will support an innovative partnership with the city to build a new recreational complex and make land available for a proposed Canadian Cancer Society lodge, Minister of Education Shirley Bond announced.
VICTORIA – Provincial Health Officer Dr. Perry Kendall acknowledged improvements made to many of the province’s drinking water systems and also highlighted a number of recommendations to government and partner agencies on how to improve drinking water for British Columbians in the Progress on the Action Plan for Safe Drinking Water in British Columbia 2008 report.
VICTORIA – The cities of Surrey, Vernon, Nanaimo and Mission have been chosen to host the 2012 and 2014 BC Summer and BC Winter Games, Minister of Healthy Living and Sport Mary Polak announced.
