Government Wide: Achieve BC

VICTORIA – The Province is supporting democracy, citizenship and is inspiring students to be future voters with a $75,000 grant to the Student Vote organization, Education Minister Shirley Bond announced today.
PRINCE GEORGE – A new StrongStart BC Outreach program is now operating in the Prince George school district in order to reach as many preschool-age children as possible, announced Education Minister and Prince George-Mount Robson MLA Shirley Bond and Prince George North MLA Pat Bell.
SOOKE – Officials from the Sooke Board of Education and the Ministry of Education joined local First Nations communities to celebrate the signing of British Columbia’s 44th Aboriginal education enhancement agreement to improve Aboriginal student achievement.
CRAWFORD BAY – Students, parents, caregivers, teachers and district staff celebrated the official opening of the new environmentally friendly Crawford Bay Elementary-Secondary school, Education Minister Shirley Bond announced.
OLIVER – Education and community services will be brought together in a single hub as Southern Okanagan Secondary becomes part of the Neighbourhoods of Learning initiative, Penticton-Okanagan Valley MLA Bill Barisoff announced.
VICTORIA – Students in British Columbia independent schools who participate in unpaid work experience opportunities to meet graduation requirements will now have their WorkSafeBC fees covered by the Province just like students in the public school system, Chilliwack-Sumas MLA John Les announced.
VANCOUVER – The Province is investing more than $167 million in seven Vancouver school projects, including a new school for the district, creating up to 1,069 jobs as part of the Province’s $14-billion public infrastructure program, Vancouver-Quilchena MLA Colin Hansen announced.
VERNON – The Province is investing more than $55 million to replace Vernon Secondary and Coldstream Elementary, creating up to 354 jobs as part of the Province’s $14-billion public infrastructure program, Okanagan-Vernon MLA Tom Christensen announced.
AGASSIZ – Chilliwack-Kent MLA Barry Penner joined Fraser-Cascade district Board of Education chair Al Fraser, parents, caregivers and district staff at the official opening of the Province’s StrongStart BC early learning centre at Kent Elementary school.
VICTORIA – B.C. is investing $4.4 million in year two of the Aboriginal Service Plans pilot for 11 public post-secondary institutions to facilitate Aboriginal participation in the province’s post-secondary system, said Murray Coell, Minister of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development.
