NEW WEBCAMS FOR PORT MANN HIGHWAY 1 PROJECT
VANCOUVER – New web cameras showing construction progress of the Port Mann Bridge and Highway 1 improvement project and current road conditions in the Lower Mainland have been added to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and PMH1 project websites, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Shirley Bond announced.
“These powerful tools will illustrate the construction progress on the Port Mann Bridge and Highway 1,” said Bond. “They will also be used to create a video archive of this generational investment in British Columbia’s economy and improved quality of life.”
The web cameras are set up in five locations along the Port Mann Bridge Highway 1 project/corridor:
· Grandview Highway Interchange on the Burnaby – Vancouver border to view the construction of the new Highway 1 HOV ramps, which will reduce travel times and improve reliability for carpoolers travelling between Highway 1 and Grandview Highway.
· King Edward Street in Coquitlam to view the construction of a new overpass across Highway 1 to replace the existing intersection under Highway 1. The Province and the City of Coquitlam are working in partnership and sharing construction costs for this improvement to Highway 1 safety as well as local access within Coquitlam.
· Cape Horn Interchange in Coquitlam to view construction in the busiest interchange in the Highway 1 corridor. Construction will improve traffic flow and safety by reducing weaving, adding more direct connections to and from Highway 1, Lougheed Highway and the Mary Hill Bypass, improving directional signage and replacing existing ramps and overpasses.
· Port Mann Bridge in Surrey to view south approach and in-river construction of the new bridge. This camera will also include views of the new South Fraser Perimeter Road.
· Johnson Hill in Surrey to view construction of the eastern approach to the Port Mann Bridge and the new 152nd Street Interchange.
The new webcams can be viewed at www.th.gov.bc.ca/constructioncams or www.pmh1project.com, where viewers will have the option of selecting from several pre-set views on each camera as well as panorama and time-lapse progressions of construction. The Port Mann and Highway 1 improvement project will generate approximately 8,000 new jobs and the new 10-lane Port Mann Bridge will open to traffic in December 2012, a full year earlier than originally expected.
