VICTORIA Daniel Harry Weatherly has been appointed a judge of the British Columbia Provincial Court, Attorney General Geoff Plant announced today.


In 1985 Mr. Weatherly received his bachelor of laws from the University of Western Ontario. Mr. Weatherly was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 1986.


Mr. Weatherly has spent the majority of his law career focused on youth and criminal justice. In 1981 and 82 Mr. Weatherly worked for the Ministry of Attorney General in Prince George as a probation officer, dealing primarily with youth. Mr. Weatherly takes his seat on the Bench in Prince George Region on March 29, 2005.


The process to appoint judges involves several steps. Interested lawyers apply, and the candidates are then reviewed by the B.C. Judicial Council, a committee that includes the Chief Judge, other judges, lawyers, and lay people.


They recommend potential judges to the attorney general, with the final appointment made through a cabinet Order-in-Council. More information about the appointment process can be found at
