TERRACE - Northwest
Community College will receive more than $700,000 from the province for campus
improvement projects, Skeena MLA Helmut Giesbrecht announced today on behalf of
Advanced Education Minister Graeme Bowbrick.
"Funding for
campus improvements will help Northwest Community College provide the quality
education and training needed for students to prepare for jobs in our modern economy,"
said Giesbrecht. "Upgrading campuses is part of our commitment to maintain the
high quality of post-secondary education in the province."
The projects
include $236,500 in improvements to the parking lots to increase safety at the
Terrace campus. The annual allowance for small projects at all NWCC campuses is
$340,783.
Funding for
campus improvements is in addition to this year's budget increase of $745,000,
which will create 69 new student spaces.
The Ministry
of Advanced Education will provide more than $63.5 million this year for improvement
projects at all of B.C.'s 28 public post-secondary institutions. The projects
include renovations, design work to improve space use, infrastructure upgrades,
installing safety features and equipment, and replacing or adding teaching and
lab equipment.
"The provincial
budget provides $133 million to upgrade our campuses and improve existing facilities,
in addition to new core funding," said Bowbrick. "From lab upgrades to new lecture
halls, this capital funding will help our institutions give B.C.'s students the
learning environment they need."
