VICTORIA – A three-year agreement with Tourism BC staff has been ratified five months before the previous contract is set to expire, Finance Minister Carole Taylor announced today.
The agreement covers approximately
93 workers represented by the British Columbia Government and Service Employees’
Union (BCGEU) who perform administration, research, finance,
communications, computer and information system duties in Victoria and
Vancouver.
The agreement includes provisions for a share of the
$1-billion incentive payment for agreements reached before they expire. The agreement also provides for a share of
the $300-million dividend payment in the final year if the Province meets its
surplus target in 2010. The dividend payment is available for all agreements
that extend to April 2010 or beyond.
All 139 agreements reached under the Province’s negotiating framework have been ratified. Twenty-eight contracts that have yet to expire, covering approximately 15,700 unionized employees, must still be negotiated.
