2006/07 PROVINCIAL EXAMS RESULTS OVERVIEW

Provincial exams are developed by B.C. teachers.
Exams may be written during one of the six examination sessions each year: January, April, May, June, August and November. Most students write exams in January and June.

There are 13 courses with required provincial exams. In most subject areas, students have choices about which course to take. For example, English 12, Communications 12, English Literature 12 and Français langue première 12 all satisfy the Language Arts 12 requirement.

There are 16 courses with optional provincial exams. All are Grade 12 courses.
Grade 12 courses with a provincial examination are often prerequisites for entry to post‑secondary programs and count toward provincial scholarships.
Grade 12 provincial exams are worth 40 per cent of a student’s final mark, except for the provincial exam for the BC First Nations Studies 12 course, which counts for 20 per cent.
Grade 10 and 11 provincial exams are worth 20 per cent of a student’s final mark.
