BC INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY STAFF REACH AGREEMENT

VICTORIA – A three-year tentative agreement has been reached for staff at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Finance Minister Carole Taylor announced today.

“I would like to thank all of the negotiators for their dedication to reaching an agreement that is both fair and affordable,” said Taylor. “The flexibility provided in the negotiating framework allowed both sides to develop an agreement that meets their needs, along with the needs of British Columbia students.”

The agreement covers approximately 2,406 faculty and staff represented by the British Columbia Institute of Technology Faculty and Staff Association. The current contract expires on June 30, 2007.  The new three-year contract will be in place until June 30, 2010.

“Colleges are an integral part of B.C.’s exceptional post-secondary education system that is training students today to help meet the growing demand for workers in our province,” said Advanced Education Minister Murray Coell. “This agreement recognizes the professional instruction provided by faculty, and the high-quality service of staff, which are essential to giving students a quality post-secondary education.”

The unprecedented success of the Negotiating Framework has led to 164 agreements completed over the last year, covering more than 300,000 workers.
