PREMIER’S STATEMENT ON CANADA’S SLEDGE HOCKEY WIN

VICTORIA – Premier Gordon Campbell made the following statement today congratulating Team Canada on their win at the Hockey Canada Cup, a pre-Paralympic sledge hockey tournament held at UBC Thunderbird Arena:

“On behalf of all British Columbians, I’d like to congratulate Team Canada on their thrilling shootout victory over the United States in the championship game.

“This weekend’s Hockey Canada Cup is a great preview of the kind of world-class sporting action we’ll see next year at the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

“Thunderbird Arena at UBC is the same venue that will host sledge hockey next year during the Games, and we’ll be cheering for Canada to take the gold again in 2010.”
